Serving Those Who Have Served Others
Our Mission
The Thayer Family Foundation was established in honor of our father, the late Brigadier General James Thayer, a widely respected leader in Oregon’s business, philanthropic, and political communities, from whom we inherited a set of shared values and beliefs founded on relationships and trust.
The Foundation was formed to fund and support the needs of Oregon & SW Washington veterans, military personnel, and first responders, but also those dedicated to societal and culturally significant fields such as educators, musicians, and artists. Each year, we will focus on a specific way of “Celebrating Service and Inspiring Hope.”
Our 2024 initiative is Funding Veteran’s Housing. With homelessness in Portland and other major cities reaching crisis levels, we’re dedicating funds to Do Good Multnomah Veteran’s Shelter, Wreaths Across America, and Oregon Military Museum Project — two organizations committed to serving homeless veterans and providing veteran housing in our local communities.
